SHOP SMALL WIN BIG……VERVE

Image result for verve card

Hey guys so I am back in Uyo and back to work…..*wailing*. I don’t want to work, I want to rest….*wailing*. I think Wednesday is a public holiday (Nigeria’s Independence day) and next week monday and Tuesday are public holidays….YIPPEE!! I get to rest a lot….*dancing*

While I was in Lagos, I used to see some mobile display by Verve with lots of noise trying to get people to the mobile stand. It was for their 'Shop small win big' campaign. I was intrigued by it and wanted to try it out but after a long day of lectures and equally long hours of traffic, I was usually too tired to get down from the bus just to satisfy my curiosity. So when I went to the Lagos International trade fair complex, Balogun Section. OMG!! I just realized that I might be in Lagos for this year’s Lagos International tradefair *jumpingupanddown*, this would be the first one I have attended in 4 years. I never used to miss it every year  when I was in Lagos/Ogun state, i even used to go there more than once. I love the atmosphere, the food and the freebies. I totally must save so that I can get lots of goodies. Because of the fact that most of the head offices of the companies come to display their products at the trade fair you are sure to get some crazy discounts and some really cool prizes. I can’t wait….*dancing*

MY FACEBOOK EXPERIMENT....

You all know that I am a late bloomer but then when I get there, I really get there!! I am so sure that some people have known about this option for so long and would probably roll their eyes at me but then again i am a late bloomer. So please don't be angry.... *grinning*

So on the day this blog had 40000 views, I was looking at my Facebook page and saw 'boost post' on the post I just made. Since i had some cash in my master card (cash put there to pay for something else o, something important but I have been having problems paying) I decided to see what boosting a post meant. I selected the least amount which was $5 (800 naira), entered my card details and waited to see what would happen.

Within a few hours I checked the post's status and I saw 72 or so people reached and I was shocked. I have never had any post seen by more than 32 people (I still don't understand what that means). Anyway I decided to boost another post and also took a decision I had been contemplating for so long. I decided to advertise my Facebook page.

As with the post boosting, I chose the $5 option and I chose to advertise for 3 days. It was an experiment and I just wanted to see what the results would be.

On the first day of advertising my page, I had my likes increase from 82 to 150 or so ( I wrote down the exact figure somewhere but I can't find it). I was stunned, super stunned.

After the end of the experiment the two posts I boosted were reached out to 1999 and 2545 people. I had a total of 358 likes (from 82 likes) after the experiment which means three days of advertising gave me 276 likes. The amazing thing is that my page is still getting more likes after the advertising period ended yesterday (the total is now 363).

I spent a total of $25 (4000 naira) on advertising my page and posts. For the three days that the adverts ran the blog was viewed 300, 350 and 550 times respectively (the highest on the last day...yesterday). My total views is now 41398.

I think my 4000 naira was worth it and it is something i should do till my blog is truly established however I am already spending a lot of money on internet and I have only one source of income with plenty things to do right now. I don't know if I can keep paying for adverts but maybe I can do my experiment once in a month. I am not sure what I would do but I think I need to adjust my budget and kick somethings out.

I also literally got an invite to be a guest writer on a blog. I don't know if i would do it. I need to check out if their brand is compatible with my brand before I jump in and write an article. If I ever take up the offer I would let you guys know.

That is all for today. Thanks for stopping by.

40000 VIEWS AND NEW BEGINNINGS....

Instead of me to concentrate in class, I was joining the selfie nation and taking a selfie...lol
Update: The giveaway is officially over. Thanks for participating.....

Hey guys, I am really beat. I don't know if it is because I went shopping after the lectures or because I think I am too old to be sitting down for a lecture of more than 2 hours but I am super beat. However I just checked my page views and I see that we have MADE it. We have finally reached 40000 views and counting. It is actually 40026 as of now.

ABSENT FOR A WHILE

Hey guys, I am going to be absent for a while. I am attending some lectures this week and I might be too tired each day to update but if I can I would try to post something in a couple of days.

I hope you don't miss me too much though I would miss you a lot. Hopefully lectures would end earlier than I expect.

Have a beautiful week guys and thanks for stopping by...

GET YOUR GAME DAY STYLE ON......FANATICS.COM CHALLENGE

Lately i have been trying to update my knowledge of sports and i found out that i barely know anything. Imagine i didn't know that football players played in other countries apart from United Kingdom, Italy and Spain. When i saw that some players actually play in France, Australia and Denmark i was totally surprised.*coversmyface*

Anyway that has spurred me to start checking out sport news and trying to improve my sports knowledge. And since there are a 1000 and one sports i am limiting myself to a few. So we all know that Nigeria is more of a football nation so football aka soccer is number 1 on my list. My favorite quote 'Never let the fear of striking out prevent you from playing the game' which was said in 'Cinderella story' (Hilary Duff and Chad Murray Bruce) was based on Baseball so therefore Baseball is the 2nd sport. Last but the least is Basketball. Why? Because when i was little my mum bought my brother and i sweatpants of basketball teams. Mine was Phoenix Suns and my brother's was Chicago Bulls, so i guess i had no choice than to stick to basketball.

HOMELESS MAN PICKS UP DIFFERENT WOMEN EVERY NIGHT TO SLEEP IN THEIR PLACES

Dashing 'Romeo'...
As i was minding my business o and snooping around my favorite blogs and sites since today is the day i have assigned for that (i have something else that  i am doing and i can do both on the same day else i won't sleep at all) when i came across this story. Wait, how can i be minding my business and snooping around? Hmm Anyway can you imagine a homeless man picking up chics and staying at their places so that he won't sleep on the street? I was what?! I must read this and after i read i said 'i must tell my readers about this hot gossip'...lol.

Anyway i saw this on mirror.co.uk and i thought you guys might be interested in it.... Enjoy

OLIVIA POPE'S INSPIRED OUTFITS...(FASHION POST)

Women's fashion retailer The Limited has teamed up with Scandal star Kerry Washington and the show's costume designer Lyn Paolo to create a collection inspired by ABC's hit inside-the-Beltway series
Scandal inspired outfits.....
I am not a television series kind of girl anymore but the amount of noise i have heard about Scandal and Olivia Pope is amazing. I don't know what the program is all about and right now i have too many things on my plate to even watch one episode.

However i think Olivia Pope has a nice sense of style and it seems a lot of people think so because guess what? There is now a clothing line inspired by the character. It is produced by The Limited Company, a fashion retailer.

WASH DAY: HEAVY PROTEIN TREATMENT…..11/09/14

Hi guys, it has been a long time I did a wash day post even though I have washed my hair practically almost every week or two weeks. Due to some circumstances I have had to conduct a heavy protein treatment every 2 weeks for almost 4 weeks. Let me explain before you scream, I was to get a cornrows style installed about 4 weeks ago but my hair stylist didn’t quite get the style so I had to adjust the style and used it for 2 weeks.

Then I wanted to install a weave and leave it for 3 weeks but the hair stylist (another one) didn’t install it properly and I was not impressed with the quality of the weave and I removed it after one week but I left the tracks (the cornrows underneath the weave) and wore a wig. There! You see it was not my fault. I had to do the heavy protein treatment that frequently because i always do a protein treatment before i install a long term protective style. I just hope I don’t suffer from protein overload.

PROTECTIVE STYLING FOR THE LONG RUN……BRAZILIAN BRAIDS

Hey guys, it has been a while since I did a long term protective style after the last fiasco that cut majority of my hair. However i decided to get another one because I was tired of wigging it and when I tried to get a weave but the hair stylist didn’t make it well and the weave was just off. I removed the weave after one week and was tired of the wig I had to wear. So when I saw an older friend at the hospital and she showed me the braids she had installed and was loosening, I decided to get it.

I felt that I could use it for at least 6 weeks and I could get the braiders to listen to me and leave the front part of my hair alone. I was so wrong, they didn’t listen to me. They told me that they would do it in a way that my hair would not cut. I kept asking or rather telling them to take more of my hair to braid with but they did what they liked. So here I am with my protective style that I paid for with money much more than my first I.T salary and It had better not cause some serious setback else I am going to have a fit right here. And you all would have to beg me!!

MY VIEW ON THE OSCAR PISTORUIS' TRIAL/JUDGEMENT

Oscar Pistorius..

Today was the day for the judgement of Oscar Pistoruis to be read and the whole world was waiting. Even though I was at work where we don’t have a television I was following the proceedings on twitter.

I got somewhat excited with the buzz and eagerly waited for the judgement to be read. You see I never believed that Oscar intentionally killed his girlfriend but I feel his problems made him react the way he did.

The judge found him guilty of ‘Culpable Homicide’ in other words 'Manslaughter'. When I read that she found him guilty of culpable homicide I was clueless and asked on twitter and I had some very helpful people who explained that it was manslaughter.

And I am comfortable with that but what I was not comfortable with was the fact that some people said he might not go to jail. They said something about postponed or delayed sentencing or something that i don't know. And that is where I no go gree (I don’t agree).

GREAT EVENTS COMING UP... THE INVICTUS GAMES AND BREAK THE SICKLE CYCLE FUND RAISER

Buckingham Palace lights up for 'I am Invictus'
Hey guys, are you in Abuja or United Kingdom right now or till the end of September? If yes, i think you guys should check out these inspirational events.

The first one is being held right now in London. It is the brain child of Prince Henry aka Harry. It is a sporting event featuring soldiers/military men that were wounded during war. The event is called 'THE INVICTUS GAMES'. It was inspired by the Warrior Games in U.S. Harry saw it when he was on tour in the USA and decided to do something like that in the U.K. The opening ceremony was held today and the event would run till September 14 so if you are there do check out some of the sporting events and be inspired.

WHAT ARE PROACTIVE MEASURES?

So the Federal Minister of Health has said we have no new confirmed Ebola case for now in Nigeria and that is great news. There seems to be just one confirmed case and she is the isolation centre in Lagos. There is still a lot of people that are under quarantine/survelliance and hopefully they would not present with the Ebola virus symptoms.

However till then most organizations are taking some precautions to help protect themselves and the public at large. A friend said that at her place of work they now check their temperature with the infra red thermometer at the office's entrance. In some banks, the cashiers are wearing gloves and face masks. Some have at the entrance soaps, chlorine water and hand sanitizers. They also have the infra red thermometers to check the temperature of their staff.

In my church yesterday, I saw that at the entrance one of the traffic officials was pumping a small amount of hand sanitizers for members (old or young) and that there has been adjustment to the way we now take Holy Communion.

EVENTS: GLAXOSMITHKLINE NEXUS MEETING, UYO

Hey guys, today was really an interesting day for me. GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals held a young pharmacists forum, what they call the 'Nexus'. It is a forum for them to interact with young pharmacists to try and motivate them to be better pharmacists.

I didn't exactly know what was going to happen during the forum but i am sure glad i went. My attendance was even by default. Apparently i am not a young pharmacist to them (when i became old i don't know o) but they wanted only the interns, corp pharmacists and pharmacy students to attend. However one of the assistant director of pharmaceutical services of my hospital insisted that some registered pharmacists also attend so that they can monitor what is being said to them. Which was actually the right thing to do because some of theses unethical companies can stuff down a load of rubbish into their throats and affect their mentality. Anyway i was the first person chosen and i felt like a star until i realised that i was technically a baby sitter, the happiness went away immediately. A friend of mine was also chosen as the second 'babysitter'.

So when i got there (late as usual but in my defense i had to send some money to pay for the last batch of sanitizers) i noticed the orange carpet after registering my name. They asked me to take a picture then but i refused. I was carrying my handbag, a nylon bag and the goody bag, i couldn't take any picture like that. After calling my friend to let her know i was already there. Then i acted like a celeb and had my picture taken on the orange carpet. I just realised that i don't have a picture of me on the orange carpet, oh well, i am not really a selfie kind of person.

LEARNING THAT TEAM WORK PAYS OFF BIG TIME

Here is an article that I want some ego tripping, no love for their job, never going to be great doctors to read. The ones that keep soiling the medical profession. I kept looking for the place where the doctor mentioned 'I' or 'Me' in the whole story. If it was some people who have equated themselves to God, they would have claimed all the glory. However I don't blame them because the orientation from medical school is not the way it should be.

Here is the article:

An airline passenger is lucky to be alive after he suffered a mid-air heart attack during a long-haul flight and was saved by three fellow travellers.
The man was midway through a flight from Canada to Hong Kong when he complained of chest pains and his heart suddenly stopped beating.
Luckily, a doctor, a pharmacist and a policeman trained in first aid were all on board and, with the help of crew, kept him alive.

REMEMBERING LITTLE RASCALS AND THE 80'S and 90'S...

1994 and 2014

How many 90's babies are here?! Unfortunately hey it should be fortunately i am not one, no bragging guys but 80's babies are the bomb.com. You'all heard!! Woot! Woot!! Anyways growing up in the 80's and 90's was real fun. Yep we didn't have internet or tablets or mobile phones. Satellite television or cables and land lines could not be afforded by a lot of people. Video games were called family combo, if you want to play Nintendo you had to go to a game centre till on of your friends finally get and everybody migrates there. Because of the lack of other distractions, we were not couch potato kids. We went to school, came back, had a forced siesta, went for extra lessons then played outside.

I remember when my brother and i were bought bicycles, it took me quite some time to learn how to ride it without the training wheels because practically almost everyone in almost 3 closes where lining up to ride. And there was no way i could hog the bicycle (even if it was my own). I would have to be firm and request for my turn before i would get to ride. However it was fun. Nowadays i don't really see kids do all that.

All they do know is play games, use computers (which has led to cyber bullying from faceless people, in my time the person that wants to bully must show his face and your mama would march to his house and report to his parents who would trash his behind and that bullying tendency would flee from his body) and watch endless Television. I won't say we didn't watch television but the programs or movie had to make sense and they were at restricted times.

We had a video rental shop we used to go to that the owner was given instructions to give us movies appropriate for our age and only during holidays. He knew our school and knew when we were on holidays or in session so there was no sneaking to get any movie during school session. One of such movies he picked out for us was Little Rascals. I just realised the movie 'Little Rascals' was made in 1994 so it is 20 years since it was produced this year. Wow!! How time flies. And if you have not watched it please please look for your inner kid and watch it,

#BOLDLIPSFORSICKLECELL

Figure A shows normal red blood cells flowing freely in a blood vessel. The inset image shows a cross-section of a normal red blood cell with normal hemoglobin. Figure B shows abnormal, sickled red blood cells blocking blood flow in a blood vessel. The inset image shows a cross-section of a sickle cell with abnormal (sickle) hemoglobin forming abnormal strands.
Normal RBCs andSickled RBCs
Hey you guys, thanks to a friend of mine I got to know about the campaign #boldlipsforsicklecell and I definitely knew that I was going to rock bold lips in support of it. Not only do I love bold lips (I rock fire engine red, dark purple/violet lips and dark brown lips frequently) but I also support any fight or cause to help in the research for sickle cell disease.

You see my genotype is AS which means I carry a trait of the sickle cell (i have some sickled RBCs). This means that I have a potential to have kids that would be SS (sickle cell) if their father is also AS. There is at least a 25% (the key word is at least but it can be more than that) chance of couple both having AS genotype producing an offspring with SS. So because of that I have been weary of dating without knowing the genotype of the guys.

Since I was a kid my mother keeps telling me, no, that should be warning me not to even try dating anyone with AS genotype. She said that even before we decide to start dating I should make sure that I know the genotype (like see the lab result)…lol. The woman does not want to hear story o, she just wants to be sure.

CUTIE ALERT......

Having a stretch: Mr Harvey, from Atlanta, spends his time capturing anthropomorphic images. Above, the cub stretches its front legs at the entrance to the den

I don't watch Nat Geo (National Geaographic) channel and Discovery channel because i find glueing myself to the T.V screen to watch a bunch of animals live their lives very 'sleep inducing and brain numbing'. I remember going to Lion park in South Africa and my friend wanted to watch the lions for a while, i was like 'what for'? I have taken enough pictures of them (i had never seen a live one except on television until that time) to last me a lifetime, can we now go? She then said 'why do you want to go? look at them, they are beautiful' and i was like my friend let us go.....Lions and lionesses that can rip you apart are now beautiful, okay, next stop please!

But while checking out an article i saw this beautiful polar bear (it is cuter than the ones i saw at Johannesburg Zoo...my first time in a zoo too) and i just had to show you guys. Enjoy checking out the polar bear.......

AM I IN THE WRONG PROFESSION?

For a couple of weeks I have been having issues with my stomach and it keeps embarrassing me. It is always rumbling and loudly too like there was a volcano inside. I knew I was having flatulence but I was not really interested in taking drugs (actually I don’t like taking drugs at all). My senior colleague told me to take a drug and I said no because it is a drug usually prescribed for Gastro-Intestinal reflux disease/Ulcer and I was not interested in concluding that I might have Ulcer.
