FEATURE POST: WORDS ON MARBLE

Yes, it is back. I said i was going to start doing my feature post series again and i am fulfilling my promise. I got this from amaka's blog http://seyonhundeyin.blogspot.com. Everything written is so true. It was a wonderful reminder to me about some things and i thought you guys might like it.

Please enjoy reading the article and check out her blog....

Words on Marble

. Always behave like the duck, keep calm and unruffled on the surface but paddle like the devil underneath

. Sometimes people come into your life just to teach you something and when you have learnt you move on

. You can’t change the past, you can’t control the future, you only have the present so make the best of the time you have now

. When you ignore little things, they are the little pieces of rocks that build up to become a mountain you can’t easily break down

. It is not the years in your life that matters but the life in your years. Life is not a race to the finish; it is a race to the prize

. There are no guarantees in life, just promises and whispers

. Trust is the only way we’ll ever find out what tomorrow holds

. Nothing is forever but there is a continuing stream of people who go through our lies and continue with us. Nothing just stops and stays but it flows like a river

. Love is like playing the piano, first you must learn to play by the rules, and then you must forget the rules and play by heart

Did you guys like it? I really hope you did. I gotta run. Thanks for stopping by.

FEELING TIRED A LOT

Hey guys, this is just a quick post. I noticed that i have been feeling tired a lot lately. I have been trying to understand why but it just clicked like right now. So now that i think i have realised the problem i would try to solve it by carrying out some major steps. I really need my energy to be waaayyyy up because i am attending a week long training in Eket next week.

I know right, i said i had lectures and now i am talking about training. I was nominated to go for a training and seriously advised to go for the training because i am directly involved in the whole programme because of my present unit in the department.

It was brought to my notice that i could attend lectures in another centre. So i decided (after much thinking and prayers) to go for the training. I hope i don't regret it. I am going to miss all my friends and family that i won't see next week but i am up for this adventure. I would be sure to gist you about everything (and shhhhh i heard we might get paid some form of stipend......shhhhhh, it is top secret o) and be sure to upload pictures on my instagram page, watch out!

I have to go. I am feeling sleepy (maybe it was because i was on call yesterday). My star times subscription has expired and since i won't be around next week, i have decided not to renew it yet hence why i am sleeping early. I don't have Star plus channel (i love this indian channel) to watch again .......*wailing*.

Thanks for stopping by. Oh! I really feel guilty today. I gossiped about 2 people and i didn't like it or should i say i discussed the actions of 2 people with some friends........nah, it is still called 'gossiping'. I can't sugarcoat it. I don't like gossiping.

Someone once said that people who bring gist to you to gossip about probably used your own gist to trade in for the 'juicy bit of news' they are telling you. I am going to make a conscious effort to resist gossiping again. I don't like this feeling at all. I am trying to find a way to make it up to the people i was gossiping about. I know right? I am super strange. I am just wired that way.

Enough with the extra ramblings. Bye guys......

Luv ya,
Petite Diva...

RAMBLINGS OF A DIVA……..

On Tuesday, 18th of March 2014, the department of pharmacy University of Uyo Teaching Hospital lost another pharmacist. It has been less than 2 years when we lost the head of our department and now another pharmacist has departed from this earth. This would make the fourth person I know that has died this year and the first quarter of the year ain’t over. I know that it is well. May the soul of Pharm Isaac Ekereobong rest in perfect peace, Amen.

I just came back from washing/treating the hair of my madam. She has had some impressive results but it could have been far better. She is prone to dandruff and has been on braids for almost 4 months (she changes the braid hairstyle). Throughout she didn’t clean her scalp and she knows that she is prone to dandruff so there were so many scales. I had to use Ketoconazole (Nizoral) shampoo to wash her hair twice because I didn’t trust any other shampoo to be able to get rid of the dandruff flakes. Even with that it was a battle to reduce the flakes to about 90%. I conducted a heavy protein treatment for her since she wanted to have a relaxer touch up. She has almost 2inches of new growth, I am excited to see how long her hair is now.

I had some people follow me back on my instagram page (@princesspetitediva) and I am super excited. Not because they are celebrities but because they are people who have a lot to offer in life and for them to follow me back is such a honor considering they don’t know about my fabulousity but can feel it from my pictures. The latest people to join my circle of fabulousities are @funkebucknor, @meetyourmotivator, @sweetkiwiyogurt and @memoireb. You all should follow them on instagram. Sweetkiwiyogurt just opened her flagship yogurt shop which has various flavours and guess what, they are low fat. So if you want a healthier alternative to ice cream then sweetkiwiyogurt is the place to be. And if you are like me that must have some iota of sugar, she has various kind of toppings to balance out the low fat yoghurt. I would try to steal some pictures and put it up later.

Heard that Chelsea (my wonderful and the bestest football club in the world) thrashed Arsenal yesterday, Whoop! Whoop!! The sky is what? The Sky is what?!! BLUE!!!!! Chelsea rocks……Yay!!! Hahaha, someone reading this would think that I have souvenirs of Chelsea FC all over my room. I just follow their activities and wish them well any time they play because I just love them and Jose Mourinho......#puppyeyes. Even when he left us, I was still faithful and when he came back everything was complete again. I don’t watch football because I found out that I tend to be loose lipped when watching. I would practically insult every one on the pitch when they are not playing well (not that I can kick the ball to save my life but I can talk, right?). I stopped watching Nigerian matches since 2008 during the Olympics when Argentina beat Nigeria at the final match. Nigerian football matches can give someone hypertension and I no want that at this my young age so I avoid watching them.

Lectures are coming up soon so I am going to missing in action for a looooooooonnnnngggggggg time. If I can upload any post using my tablet I would try to but I ain’t making any promises. I hope you can understand and bear with me. Knowledge is power and I want to know more to be able to be the best pharmacist that I can be and help others live healthier lives.

Since I had my relaxer touch up I have washed my hair twice. I had a medium protein wash last week Sunday and had a moisturising wash yesterday. At almost 2 weeks I am already seeing and feeling impressive new growth, Yay!! I started my inversion week challenge yesterday and hope that by the time I am through in 6 days time, I would have the 1 inch that is claimed you can achieve with the inversion technique.

I used to do a feature blog post from other blogs and sites but stopped, why? I have no idea but it think I would start again because I think it would help some other blogs that I know have more visits and because I would have more posts for your reading pleasure without writing them. So I guess it would be a symbiotic relationship uhn?....lol

I think that is enough rambling for one night. I have to go. I need to commence my inversion technique for today. I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.

Thanks for stopping by.

Luv ya,
Petite Diva.

MY 1ST RELAXER TOUCH UP……11/03/14 (HAIR POST)

My title should read my first relaxer touch up since I seriously started my healthy hair journey. Armed with all I knew about healthy hair practises off I went to the salon. I had added about 5 teaspoons of my oil mix to 225gram of my venus relaxer about 1 hour before I was at the salon. I was trying to reduce the potency of the relaxer so that it won’t over process my hair. Let me just say that I am never ever ever ever using that venus relaxer again! Why? Please continue reading, I would explain why.

Anyway I went to the salon where I normally get my weaves fixed and found out that the owner was not around. As I had already added oil to the relaxer I had to find another option fast because I could not come back the next day (the relaxer might not still be good). I remembered an IT student had told me about a salon close by so I went there.

The lady started applying the relaxer to my hair and I don't think she based my hair with petroleum jelly but I can’t be sure because I was distracted. A senior colleague had created some issues and I was trying to resolve it in a very mad state (some people are just annoying). When everything was resolved I started watching her carefully but she had applied the relaxer a little bit above where I would have liked. But what made me a little bit calm was that in the morning I had applied a lot of oil and shea butter to my hair strands (I think one of them even complained that my hair was oily). The oil and shea butter helps to prevent over processing of the hair. I however told her not to apply further or comb further. Oh I have forgotten to mention that I made her use my big comb (it is not as big as the wide toothed comb but not as small as the rat tail comb) and she complained but I told her that I didn’t want my hair to be too processed.

Immediately she was through I asked for the relaxer to be washed off and that was when her girl started dragging her feet with the water. I felt my hair processing at a mega speed and I was not happy. I don’t understand why my hair processed too much even after adding the oil but I have decided to change my relaxer. I would try ORS lye relaxer next and add oil and conditioner. I want texlaxed hair so that my hair can have small body!

After the relaxer was rinsed off with water, the stylist applied my ORS replenishing conditioner (as per my instructions), it was left on my hair for about 5 mins then rinsed off and washed with my neutralising shampoo (twice). After I wrapped their towel (next time I am taking my towels) then she applied my light protein, moisturising deep conditioner and oil mix. She literally didn’t understand what it was and how to apply it. I had to show her. I covered my hair with a light shower cap for about 40 mins then had her rinse it off.
Deep conditioning mode.......

Then it was time for drying with a hand dryer. I tried to make the assistant of the hairstylist use medium heat but they insisted on using high heat. After the hair was about 30% dry, I applied my protein and moisture leave ins then allowed the assistant to continue. When my hair was about 70% dry, because of the dryer I applied a little of my ORS heat protectant. I made her use my wide tooth comb when combing my hair (yes, I carried a lot of things. I had a very big bag.)

Then the flat ironing process began, she applied my heat protectant and began to straighten the hair. She made about 6 passes and I was not happy. She would have done more if I didn’t stop her. I pitied my hair. But since I only intend to apply direct heat to my hair only when I have a relaxer touch up and which would occur at least every 18-20 weeks I had to calm down.

The relaxer touch up didn’t really go well because my hair was a lot processed but I have learnt from this touch up and would try to do things differently and maybe with a different hairstylist. One thing is for sure I am not using VENUS HAIR RELAXER again. I also did not like the fact that she didn't follow all of my instructions especially with the direct heat. But seeing as she was confused with most of the steps i told her to do, i have to cut her some slacks. Most of these stylists don't know anything.

Here are pictures of my hair after my first relaxer and the touch up. My hair is uneven and it seems my back hair grows faster than the front and middle. This means that when my hair reaches a certain length I might have to cut some so that my hair can be even a bit.

Taken with my phone.....

Is there any improvement?......

Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoyed today’s post and try out the mid relaxer protein treatment. I think I would always have that step included whenever I get a touch up. My hair felt stronger. I am determined to do everything I can to make sure I get waist length hair in the next 2 years.

PRE RELAXER WASH DAY……..9/03/14

I started loosening my braids and cornrows on the 8th and was able to finish it on the 9th. I experienced minimal breakage thanks to the heavy protein treatment I had conducted prior to installing the cornrows. I am really mad at myself for all the times that I had installed a protective style without conducting a heavy protein treatment. Oh well, that is why it is called a journey. You learn things along the way.

So since I wanted to have a relaxer touch up soon, I knew I had to conduct a heavy protein treatment wash again. Yes I washed my hair before applying relaxer; don’t fall off your chairs. Contrary to what you think it is very important to conduct a protein treatment at least 5-7 days before you relax or have a touch up. The reason is that the chemicals used in the relaxer breaks down the protein in our hair so by conducting a protein treatment before and after the relaxer, there is a portion that is restored back to the hair follicle. And trust me your hair would come out just fine.

So here is what I did.
1.     Pre pooed with hot oil, cover my hair with a plastic bag and a shower cap for 30 minutes.
2.     Wash with my diluted VO5 shampoo (once).
3.     Wrapped a micro fibre towel on my hair for some minutes then applied a mixture of one egg yolk, about half of the egg white, 2 teaspoons of food mayonnaise, about a teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of my oil mix. I covered with a plastic bag and a shower cap. Kept it on for 30 minutes, would have loved to leave it on for longer but the mixture kept running down my face and neck. I had to rinse it off with cold water (if you use hot water you would have scrambled eggs on your hair). And oh, my hair did not smell because of the egg, it came out stronger.

4.     I did a black tea rinse (to prevent shedding) using the tea I had made with one bag of Lipton tea. I didn’t rinse off with water.
5.     I wrapped my hair with a micro fibre towel for some minutes then applied my moisturising deep conditioner (always apply a moisturising conditioner after a protein treatment to bring back moisture into your hair). I used organics tea tree oil cholesterol conditioner, eucalyptus oil, my oil mix, castor oil, few drops of lavender and citronella oil (one day I would upload pictures of the oils) and a bit of my Hawaiian silky argan oil. I covered with a plastic bag and shower cap then slept off. I eventually left the deep conditioner on my hair for more than 2 hours. Detangled then rinsed off with cold water to close my hair cuticles.
6.     I wrapped my hair with my turbie twist for almost 15 minutes then allowed to dry for another 10 minutes. I sprayed my hair with my protein leave in (vitale anti breakage leave in conditioner) then applied my moisture leave in (profectiv break free leave in conditioner). After my hair was almost 80% dry I applied my moisturising lotion, oil mix and shea butter to keep my hair moisturised. I used my fingers to detangle and then placed my hair in a top knot bun.

So there you have it guys, that is what i did during my pre relaxer wash day. I was impressed with the amount of hair I lost and I am glad that I had learnt a lot concerning my relaxed hair during the months. I eventually had the relaxer touch up on Tuesday (at 18 weeks 5 days post relaxer). I hope to upload the write up for that soon. I tried the mid relaxer step which involves applying a protein treatment after the relaxer has been rinsed off with water before using a neutralising shampoo. Weird uhn? I learned about it 2 days to the touch up and I decided to try it. You wouldn’t believe how that went.

Thanks for stopping by.  I hope you have learnt something new about black hair care.
Luv ya,
Petite Diva….

P.S: I made a new batch of my moisturising spray. I am so loving DIY products, it helps me save a lot of money.
Water, Oil mix, Leave in conditioner, rinse out conditioner, essential oils (eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, citronella oil) and glycerin......

NON LIVING ITEMS THAT MADE THE CUT......

Here are the last set of pictures from my birthday. I have been trying to upload them for days now. I don't get what is wrong with airtel all of a sudden. They used to be so good now they are just frustrating. I am really discouraged. I have no zeal to put up posts anymore.

Anyway, i have loosened my hair and had a relaxer touch up. I don't know when i would upload the write ups and pictures of my wash and relaxer touch up but i would definitely do so soon. Enjoy the pictures and for more pictures follow me on instagram @princesspetitediva. I think i prefer it to facebook. I might stop uploading pictures on facebook soon.

EVENTS FROM MY BIRTHDAY

Gown: Asos.com, Sandal: New look from Asos.com, Earrings:Mr Price, SA, Clutch: Balogun Market
I truly stepped into my 30th year on earth in style. My birthday was craaaaaayyyyyyyy! (imagine me saying that with a Black American gangster attitude). I know that to some people the events that occurred were normal but to me it was something different so i am happy.

In the morning, i had a cake delivered to me by a pharmaceutical rep of Biofem pharmaceuticals (his portfolio includes Bioxime caps and granules). My original plan was not to have any celebration in the morning because i wanted to go for my bishop's burial so i never made any arrangement for any morning celebration but he surprised me with the cake. So i had to look for drinks, knife and tray so that i can share the cake with people. I uploaded some pictures on instagram and someone said i was still into butter icing cake when people are really into fondant/sugar craft icing now. Unfortunately i am not a fan of fondant icing. I am always annoyed when i see a fondant iced wedding cake. I know that i am not going to have a fondant iced cake for my wedding, i am a butter cream icing kind of girl so disses like that have no effect on me.

I eventually couldn't go for my bishop's burial because my incharge was not around that day and the person that was supposed to stand in for me stood me up. He was missing in action and his phone number was unreachable. I was sad and angry but i had to forget about it and move on.

After sharing the cake and drinks with colleagues (both pharmacists and doctors), it was back to serious work for me. Then after work came preparation for the glam night. I had sent some messages to some people that i would like to come for the dinner and i told them to dress glam style. I don't know what they were thinking because from the venue it should have made them realise that it was a different ball game. One of my guest almost pissed me off saying he can't suit up and i was like 'you have to!'.

I had made reservations online and i made the reservations for 7:30pm and told my guests that it was 7pm (i know Nigerians and african time). Some days to my birthday one of my male guest asked if he could bring a 'friend' and i put that friend in quotes because i later found that she was not just a friend. I agreed when i was unable to get my last guest to indicate his intention of coming and i think i might have made a mistake. It didn't bother me when i thought otherwise but when i realised exactly who she was, i felt a little blindslided. And because of that i kinda of collected some heat from a lot of people even some of my guests because i had been asked if they could bring a guest and i said no only for them to see him with his 'friend'. And i got a little of 'are you crazy look and words after people saw the pictures because of the 'friend'. But since i said it was okay, i defended them however i don't think i would ever try it again. Because though i defended them i would have preferred knowing the truth upfront and i would have allowed the others to bring a date and then everything wouldn't have seemed awkward for me. Lesson learned! But then again he did offer to pay for any extra expenses which he did so everybody can just chill out.

Okay back to the dinner, my female friend and i couldn't get a cab on time (uyo na wa for you people) and when we finally did we were late but we eventually made it to the hotel at about 8 pm. The other guest who i was hoping would take us had called me at 6pm to say he might be unable to come and i refused to let that saddened me. It was my day and i was going to enjoy it. We got there and my other guest and his 'friend' were also not there and since it was late, my gal and i decided to start without them. We had a 'butlerish' kind of lady at our service who clearly knew that we were big time JJCs (novice) and she was extremely helpful in showing us what to do. We felt like super stars and i felt hot and sexy in my backless gown (i got a lot of 'you didn't wear that?!' surprised stares and questions but hey it was my day......*dancing).

The other guest and his friend came in and that was when i felt a little bad at being blind slided but since i had accepted for him to bring her, i didn't think about it. The honest truth i had to force myself to be cheerful so i used my playful attitude to help me get over it and i was fine.

My girlfriend and i had already had our experimental starter and main course which consisted of fruits and something i don't know as starter, vegetable fried rice and coleslaw and saute prawns (i ate one and almost pucked) as main dish. I did copy copy and followed my friend to take fish pepper soup and didn't like it. The fish was too bony joor. I was not about to choke in a 5 star restaurant in front of white people. That would have been embarrassing.

By the time the last guest had arrived, we were about to start desert. I loved the chocolate cake i chose for my desert but my girl friend didn't. When they were talking and forming 'the girl is nice'
(the girl being me), i was wondering if they were jazzed by the environment or something, the chef brought a chocolate cake compliment of the restaurant and everybody was going 'awwww and ohhhhh' and i was mimicing them.....lol.

We took pictures but as for me i was more interested in the bill. I went to ask for it but it was not ready. I wanted to know if we were going to wash plates if my money was not enough....hahaha. Actually i just wanted to know if i would be able to pay with cash or card, saw that the bill was not above my budget and i was happy. I happily tipped our butler and we were on our way home. Everybody had a nice time. And they were extremely grateful that i had invited them. I took the birthday cake home as we were all stuffed and later shared it with more people at work 2 days after.

I later found out that some people in the hospital got to know about the dinner, how? i have no idea. But oh well, i had a nice time that day even with the hiccups and it just showed me that even though things don't always start or happen like i want i just have to relax and leave it in God's hands. I hope i remember that lesson always especially with the 'no husband thing' people seem to me singing in my ears.

That is all the gist about my day. I hope to upload pictures of the non living things (food, cakes and dinner arrangement) that made appearances on my day. I just have to transfer them from my phone first. I hope you guys enjoyed viewing my birthday pictures here.

Thanks for stopping by.

DIVA'S RAMBLINGS

Hey guys, i really do hope i am able to upload this post today. I have so much to talk about. I recently came back from Lagos. I went for a friend's wedding in Abeokuta and while i am grateful that i am back in Uyo safely, i seriously had a problem with the fuel scarcity that made the journey horrible. Everywhere was hot and sandy and the passenger at my side made it worse. I don't know what people are carrying like that and why they think they are allowed to inconvenience others. And the woman kept holding a flyer and putting it to her chest and uttering some words. I don't know if she was saying some incantations or praying, that was really weird. And due to the fact that the driver was trying to conserve fuel, the air conditioner was not switched on (i don't know for other people in the bus but when i get to their head office in Lagos, i am going to make a formal complaint. I cannot pay for A/C bus and the air conditioner would not be switched on)

Due to the traffic caused by road repairs and long queues for fuel in stations that had fuel (and were acting arrogantly) the journey from Lagos to Abeokuta (when i was going for the wedding) was horrible. I don't think i want to pass through that again. But it wasn't all that bad, i was able to see 2 of my classmates and some of my schoolmates. Saw a cute medical student now a doctor that i thought was cute then and is still cute now, hey, before you guys start thinking of anything, he is taken (i think).

My birthday is on Tuesday and though i cancelled my morning plans due to the burial of my bishop, i still plan on going ahead with my evening plans. Hopefully everything would go on better than i planned and i would be able to show you guys how it went down. I expect to see a lot of comments from you guys o.

Right now i know someone who is not having things easy in her life rnow and i am just praying that God would give her the strength she needs to bear with all that is happening to her. Sometimes somethings just happen to show you that you can't really know a person and that change can only come to a person from God when he or she desires it and not when you want it to happen. We would keep praying for them.

For more pictures, follow me on instagram @princesspetitediva. I got myself an early birthday present last week shortly before i went home. Those on instagram know what it is. I got myself a Tecno S5 phone. It is an android phone and a touch screen. I didn't like it when i got it, felt it was too big and too technologically advanced for me. I am still trying to warm up to touchscreen phones or tablets but it is not easy. Typing on  them is very hard for me so i doubt i would be chatting much on my phone but i do like the fact that i can upload pictures straight from my phone to instagram or facebook. What i don't like is the fact that battery life is not for as long as i thought. It was a shock for me to discover that the battery does not last more than 6 hours. A friend suggested that i get a power pack, drat! All these phones sef! I seriously tire o.

So i am seriously loving a couple on instagram by id @adanna_david. The guy is german (with black blood) and the girl is nigerian. They are super cute and i love their dancing videos. The girl is a twin and their birthday was on the 2nd of march (march babies rock. If you don't know that then you must be living under a rock....lol). Anyways they just had their court wedding in germany yesterday (their traditional wedding was in december last year and the guy looked gooooooood in Igbo wear). They make you believe that true love is possible. Here is wishing them a wonderful fruitful and happy married life together and wishing Adanna and Adanma a happy birthday and many more blessed years ahead.

I have to go now. However before i go, i just want to wish my friend Busayo a happy married life and congratulate my friends Bisi Akinlonu and Shola Ewedairo on the birth of their lovely kids. Bisi's child is a march baby while Shola's girl is a february baby (almost made it to march).

Thanks for stopping by.
