DIVA IN THE KITCHEN: EXPERIMENTS OF THE WEEK

Left: Pancakes Right: Ginger cookies
Hey guys, some of my experiments this week didn't go as planned. I wanted to try two drinks: Ginger beer and Chapman and they were a disaster.

Apparently I can follow the directions for cooking and baking well but for drinks I am such a klutz. Anyway thanks to my good friend Biola of Cocktails by Enliven by God's grace my clumsiness in making drinks would be a thing of the past.

She is having a one day training at two venues (two states) and fortunately for me it seems this strike is still on. I really hope to attend the training. She is teaching on how to make cocktails however alcohol and i don't mix so I might not be able to drink what I would make however I am hoping that if I am able to slay making cocktail drinks I should be able to slay making mocktail (cocktail drinks without alcohol) drinks.

She is having a super duper discount so hurry up and pay. Check it out here http://www.dealdey.com/deals/exclusive-cocktail-training

Okay enough of the training talk, now on to my experiments/disasters. I made ginger cookies which was really nice except a batch decided to overbake (burn). Here is the link to where you can find the recipe http://www.dobbyssignature.com/2013/09/homemade-ginger-bread-cookies.html?m=0.

I tried to make ginger beer with this recipe www.dobbyssignature.com/2014/05/how-to-make-ginger-beer-ale.html?m=0 but it was a disaster. The whole thing was smelling like yeast or palm wine and it was not sweet. I had to pour it away.

I made american style pancakes which is different from the other pancakes I made last two weeks. This involves the inclusion of baking powder or baking soda into the batter. When frying you flip the pancakes when you see lots of air bubbles.

I also made dark fruit cake using the same the recipe here because I had run out of refined white sugar (wasted my sugar on the ginger beer) and I wanted to bake a cake.

I tried my hand in making Chapman and it came out in an orange shade. I was not happy. The taste was just fantaish and since I don't fanta it was not nice. Here is the recipe I tried to copy....http://www.dobbyssignature.com/2015/01/chapman-drink-recipe-fanta-chapman.html?m=0.

Here are some of the pictures I took:
Ginger cookies.....before baking
After baking....you can clearly see the ones that decided to overbake...
In preparation for Chapman drink
Cucumber slices, Lemon slices and Alomo bitters (I ended up putting less than 5mls when I remembered that alcohol and me don't mix)
Orange Chapman....This is supposed to be red! Red! Not orange.....*crying*
American pancake....my grandma says it tasted like cake and she is right. It is fluffy with a spongey feel and because I added vanilla essence it smelt amazing.
Well that is all folks. Hope you enjoyed today's post. I gotta run, I am so hot and restless. This weather is ridiculous!

I wish you all a great week ahead.

Hey, I need to know if there is a FedEx or UPS office close to festac town, Lagos. Can someone please help me? EMS is not an option for me, I just don't trust them.

Thanks for stopping by.

Luv ya,
Petite Diva.....

Looove the look of your cookies and pancakes. I've never tried to make ginger cookies myself, just regular ones.

    1. I need to buy grenadine syrup. I hope I would find it. I can't use Schweppes because of the quinine content. Thanks for the recipe...

    2. It's not hard to get. A good wine shop should have it, or people that sell baking things.

    3. Okay. When I go to buy my baking things I would check for it.
