FOCUS.....

Follow one course until successful....
So a new batch of corps members should have reported to their respective camps and be getting used to the reality of staying in camp for 21 days and being in that state for 1 year. I wish them a wonderful time while in camp, have fun, make friends, network and try to stay healthy and safe. If you must try all the man o war activities, remember you are not James Bond or Captain America and know your limit.

One year for NYSC seem to be a waste of time for some people but it can be a whole lot of good for those who take advantage of it. I now advise my babies....the interns that i have helped trained to have a plan and not lose focus. I try not to regret things in my life because i realise that my life experiences are to make me stronger and to inspire others to be better.

When i came for my NYSC here in Uyo, i didn't have a focus. My aim was just to survive and work hard. Then i remembered i always wanted to go for a masters program. So as a result of someone else (my boyfriendat that time), i decided to apply for the masters in the same country he wanted (even though i never imagined myself there). I got accepted but he wasn't. And can you guess what happened? Yep! I let go because i didn't want it bad enough. I lost focus because of a guy. Yes, i didn't have the money but where there is a will, ways would open. I could have looked harder to get any type of scholarship or negotiated well with my family members to cough out the money and we would have worked out a payment plan for me to return the money. But because i lacked focus at that time, i let that one go.

I know a lot of my friends who achieved so much during their NYSC year. So now i advise my babies to set out an ambitious goal for themselves, write out a plan to achieve the goal and not lose focus. If you want to go for a master program after this one year, begin to plan it now. Think about the course, research on schools and look at the requirements necessary. If you want to go abroad, begin to listen and look out for scholarships. Yes, scholarships are not easy to come by but who knows you might be lucky enough to get two or three to help pay your fees. Where there is a will, there is a way.

So have i gotten my focus back? Yes. Am i still going to go for the masters program? I am not sure yet. However what i am sure of is that i am no more taking up the dreams of others. Failing the exams last year and some things that i have done for myself this year have made me realise that i need to do things for me and not others. It was the way i operated in school and i think it worked for me.

So here is to being focused, to having new dreams and working towards your dreams.

Thanks for stopping by.....

Luv ya,

P.S: Oh yeah, i forget to tell you guys. So when i was in Lagos last week, i attended a seminar at the prestigious Eko hotels and suites, Victoria Island. The speaker, a Nigerian who is based in the U.K is a leadership and business mentor. He was offering a 2 month mentorship program for those who answered his questions as intelligently as he wanted. He was going to write a secret pin behind the card for those who he was offering the service to. Well, i didn't answer the questions however when we were through and he was giving his cards to us he looked at my face and scribbled behind the card he gave to me.

At the time i got the card i was on the phone and i thought it was his signature. I later found out it was the secret pin!! I was surprised and grateful. I think he liked my face or he was impressed that i offered to answer someone's question without being prompted. I don't know the reason. All i know is that i got a month or two of mentorship with a guy who offers his service for about £700-800/day for free. That is much more than money!! Who knows the possibility of what his mentorship can do in my life and the lives of people around me. That was the highlight of my trip to Lagos and to think i went to the seminar venue on a whim.....#Godorderedmysteps
